My school runs Golf Canada’s Golf in Schools program. Am I still able to use it?
Yes. Teachers are encouraged to continue growing the sport with their existing program and equipment. First Tee – British Columbia and Golf Canada will work with those participating schools to transition to the First Tee School Program. Existing Golf in Schools sites will be invited to get the new training and materials needed to be considered a First Tee School. First Tee – British Columbia will fundraise to cover any additional costs to transition to the First Tee School Program.
Do teachers receive any training for the First Tee School Program?
The First Tee School Program gives physical educators all the tools to get started. First Tee – British Columbia will provide the training, equipment and lesson plans that integrate life skills and values with the game of golf and motor skills. The online training course is a video-rich session designed to provide vivid examples on how golf skills, core values, and healthy habits are safely and effectively integrated into elementary physical education classes.
Will teachers and schools receive any support from the First Tee – British Columbia?
Chapter staff will support schools with the implementation of the First Tee School Program. Chapter staff will assist with identifying funding sources, school registration, teacher training and equipment delivery. Chapter staff will continue communication with schools implementing the program to understand how students are being exposed to the game of golf and create transition opportunities for students to get involved in other First Tee programming.
