More than 160 students from ȽÁU, WELṈEW̱ Tribal School, primarily representing the four W̱SÁNEĆ Nations, participated in a First Tee – British Columbia golf week from June 1-4. Led by First Tee – British Columbia Coordinator and Coach Max Kleban, with support from intern Taylor Eshelby and Indigenous Assistant Coach Shayann Denis, the program introduced students from preschool to Grade 6 to golf and its inherent life lessons through physical education classes.
The week concluded with a Try Golf Day at Highland Pacific Golf on June 5. Eight Grade 6 students from the LENOṈET SCUL,ÁUTW̱ SENĆOŦEN immersion program took part in two hours of on-course instruction with Coaches Max Kleban and Cooper Alexander, applying skills learned during the school-based sessions.
The on-course experience was supported by RBC Community Junior Golf, an initiative led by RBC in partnership with Golf Canada that helps reduce barriers to participation and create more inclusive opportunities for young people to access the sport.
